French toast with maple syrup

Many times you will find that simple recipes are truly amazing, and this french toast is definetly one of them.
I am sure that many of us have tasted different variations of french toast, as I am sure that everyone has his own favourite recipe. Back in my country we were used to add a just pinch of salt in the batter, and fry it in hot sunflower oil, while others just spread some sugar on top of it. We used to enjoy it in cold winter nights along with a hot cup of tea.
When I first tried this recipe I simply loved it: the bread is so soft and delicate, and the maple syrup complements it in a great way.
It is perfect for breakfast, served with a glass of cold milk, and the recipe is really simple.

For two persons, you will need the following
ingredients:
4 slices of white thick bread (preferably 2-3 days old)
4 free-range eggs
200 ml milk
one teaspoon of sugar
some unsalted butter for frying
maple syrup

In a small bowl, beat the eggs with the milk and the sugar. Cut the bread slices in half and soak them carefully in the batter, turn the bread on both sides, to incorporate the batter.
Place the butter in a hot pan, alow it to melt, then add the bread and fry it on medium heat for about 2 -3 minutes on each side, until it becomes golden brown.
Serve warm, with plenty of maple syrup on top.
Enjoy!
